Ahimsa (non-harming) and Bhakti (love)
Bhakti yoga is the spiritual path focused on the cultivation of love and devotion. Consider how the healing of negative or traumatic experiences is an integral part of spiritual life. Bhakti is not as rigorous as other forms of yoga because it focuses on the heart center. The origins of Bhakit can be seen in the upanishads, specifically the Shvestashvara Upanishad. The Bhagavad Gita, and the Puranas are important scriptures that expound the philosophy of Bhakti yoga.
As Swami Sivananda writes, “Bhakti softens the heart and removes jealousy, hatred, lust, anger, egoism, pride and arrogance. It infuses joy, divine ecstasy, bliss, peace and knowledge. All cares, worries and anxieties, fears, mental torments and tribulations entirely vanish. The devotee is freed from the Samsaric wheel of births and deaths. He attains the immortal abode of everlasting peace, bliss and knowledge”.
